45th Annual MBMC Charity Heart Tournament Summary

We started off the event with the Captain’s Meeting on Friday night September 13th. The highlight of the evening was raffling off the early bird sign up marlin bait casting rod and reel donated by Jerry Lively and Fisherman’s Landing Tackle in honor of Roy Lively.  The lucky winner was Raphael Sanchez. Hope he catches a lot of marlin with his new outfit!

The lucky winner was Raphael Sanchez. Hope he catches a lot of marlin with his new outfit! Tournament day came and all boats hit the water. There were 19 boats and 57 anglers entered. Not a bad turn out based on the current marlin conditions. Some went looking for bluefin tuna and others spread out looking for marlin.

There were two bluefin tuna caught in the San Clemente Island area. Mark Mitchell captured 2nd place tuna with an 85# BFT winning $500 and Josh Luz took 1st place with a 152.2# BFT (shown left) and walked away with $1,000.

There were no marlin caught or released; in fact none were even hooked up. All angler’s names were put into a hat and names were drawn for the winning prizes: 3rd place $750 went to Wayne Yasuda , 2nd place $1000 was won by Roger Carvajal and top prize of $1,500 went to Greg Rogers. Congratulations to all the winners!

The big winner will be the American Heart Association (AHA). Thanks to significant cash donations and the fabulous raffle held at the banquet a sizeable amount will be donated to the AHA. We do know the donation sum at this time, but we will let you know once the final accounting is completed.

The MBMC would again like to thank all those who participated and donated to this outstanding event! Dan Muslin, Tournament Chairman
