Greetings to you all……I hope you all enjoyed the long holiday weekend and stayed cool with some time out on the water.
I had a chance to fish this past week with Vice President Micah Andersen where we ran to the 302-224 area. The water was beautiful blue and full of lots of Flying Fish. We ended up catching a few dorado, a couple nice yellowtail and all the rat yellows we wanted (good fun on light tackle!). I know there have been Marlin seen in this water and reports of Wahoo cutting off boaters Jigs. A few years back we caught all the wahoo and Blue Marlin starting around the middle of September, so stand by for some prime fishing that will hopefully include a few “exotics”. Striped Marlin seem to spread out everywhere at the moment and should be expected to concentrate for some excellent bites over the next month. With Bluefin still being caught to the west and regular Yellowfin action being enjoyed all around, any trip is likely to be productive for a number of species depending on interests.
The 46th annual Mission Bay Marlin Club Marlin Tournament is set for September 26th. This tournament is open to MBMC Member boats only. This will be a fun day on the water and though it won’t look like last year’s event we will do everything possible to make it great for all. We will be awarding Gift Cards from Dana Landing and Fisherman’s Landing (1st place $1000, 2nd place $700 and 3rd $500). The Crew of the Lively One has donated a Custom Rod and Reel for the Early Bird Drawing for all entries received on or before September 20, 2020. We will let Jerry Lively pull the lucky angler’s ticket at the Captain’s meeting Friday September 25, 2020, outside Dana Landing . Good luck everyone! Entry Form and Rules link
Membership Deal – New members that join MBMC from now until the end of the year will receive membership for the remainder of 2020 and all of 2021. Notable events:
– Fish of the Month winner for August was Dan Banks with a 32.3lb Bluefin Tuna. Congratulations Dan!
– We would like to welcome New Members Jack Snider and Waynne Yasuda to our club. I hope to see you at the Club Tournament on the 25-26th.
– Weighmaster Billy Vitale has our scale recertified and we are up to date with the IGFA. Thanks Billy.
The Tuna Tournament was held and we had only 2 boats fish and no fish weighed in. We are discussing this issue with the Board Members currently and will inform you whether we hold the What’s Hot Tournament in October. Covid has been a hurdle that has been hard to plan anything with. I hope you all understand and give us some grace knowing that the board is working on what it feels is in the best interest of all members while trying to remain compliant to the ever changing guidelines and restrictions. Although we are looking forward to returning to business as usual, we also try to remain conscious of all members’ viewpoints when making tough decisions.
Special thanks:
– The board would like to thank Kent Yamada on behalf of club members for all his hard work in putting together the club directory…turned out great! Thank you Kent!
– The board would also like to extend a special thank you to Larry Oberti for his assistance in working to push out the information you all receive via digital media. Much Appreciated!
Hoping you all have a chance to get out and enjoy some great peak season fishing.
Best wishes, Shawn
