MBMC Awards

AWARDS ELIGIBILITY
All fish must be must be caught or tagged and/or released in accordance with MBMC Rules and Regulations in order to be eligible for any MBMC award.

ANNUAL “OSCAR” AWARDS
The club awards hand crafted “Oscar” Marlin Trophies ’ for outstanding marlin fishing achievements. One prestigious Oscar trophy will be awarded to each member who wins one or more Oscar award categories in a season.  The trophy will be engraved with all Oscar categories won by the member.

OSCAR AWARDS

  • First Weighed-In Marlin of the Season
  • First Tagged and/or Released Marlin of the Season
  • Solo Marlin – Any Marlin of the season Tagged and/or Released or Caught by a member who is alone on the boat during the entire capture process.
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught from a Skiff (a skiff shall be defined as any vessel under 26 feet in length and shall be open to the elements with no enclosures, cabin, bunks or sleeping facilities. No restrictions on type of power)
  • Last Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught of the Season
  • Largest Broadbill Swordfish of the Season
  • Most Tagged and/or Released or Caught
  • Largest Marlin of the Season
  • Any Marlin on 6 lb. or 12 lb. Test

OSCAR AWARDS FOR MALE ANGLERS

  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 16 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 20 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 30 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 50 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 80 lb. Test Line

OSCAR AWARDS FOR FEMALE ANGLERS

  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 16 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 20 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 30 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 50 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 80 lb. Test Line

OSCAR AWARDS FOR JUNIOR ANGLERS

  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 16 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 20 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 30 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 50 lb. Test Line
  • First Marlin Tagged and/or Released or Caught on 80 lb. Test Line

BOAT OSCAR AWARDS

  • Season Top Boat to the non-charter boat, owned in full  or part by a member of the MBMC, credited with landing the most marlin during the season, including releases. In the case of a tie, the boat with the first capture time of their last qualifying fish will be awarded the trophy

MBMC No. 1 FLAGS

  • A MBMC No.1 Marlin Flag is presented to the member boat for the first marlin of the season that is weighed in.
  • A MBMC No.1 Marlin Flag is also presented for the first marlin of the season that is Tagged and/or Released
  • A MBMC No. 1 Albacore Flag is presented to the member boat for the first Albacore of the season
  • A MBMC No. 1 Tuna Flag is presented to the member boat for the first tuna of the following species: yellowfin, bluefin or big-eye.

MASTER ANGLER AWARD
The Master Angler Award shall be awarded to the member who weighs in the highest total weight in at least ten of the following categories of eligible species during the season. All fish must be of legal size and taken in accordance with rules of the Mission Bay Marlin Club.  In the event an angler catches a fish during the season which is of greater weight than an earlier catch, the weight of the largest fish shall be used for that category.  In case of a tie the Angler with the largest billfish shall win. Only fish caught by a member who has qualified in ten categories will be considered in determining the winner of this award. A marlin released in accordance with club rules will be awarded  a weight of 130 pounds SPECIES CATEGORIES

  • Albacore
  • Barracuda
  • Big Eye or Yellowfin Tuna
  • Billfish
  • Bluefin Tuna
  • Bonito
  • Dorado
  • Halibut
  • Rockfish (Rock cod)
  • Sand, Calico or Spotted Bass
  • White Sea Bass
  • Yellowtail

ALBACORE,TUNA AND YELLOWTAIL AWARDS
Annual trophies shall be awarded to members, whether they be man, woman, or junior that weigh in the biggest fish, meeting or exceeding the minimum weight requirements in the following categories. A trophy shall be awarded for each numbered category.

Tuna Trophy (Bigeye, Yellowfin, Bluefin)

  • 12 lb. test line, 30 lb. fish minimum
  • 20 lb. test line, 50 lb. fish minimum
  • 30 lb. test line, 75 lb. fish minimum
  • 50 lb. test line, 125 lb. fish minimum

Albacore Trophy

  • 8 lb. line, 20 lb. fish minimum
  • 12 lb. line, 30 lb. fish minimum
  • 20 lb. line, 50 lb. fish minimum

Yellowtail Trophy

  • 8 lb. line,  20 lb. fish minimum
  • 12 lb. line, 30 lb. fish minimum
  • 20 lb. line, 40 lb. fish minimum
